Year 4
Welcome to Class 4.
Our themes for this year are Who lives in Antartica, How hard was it to invade and settle in Britain? Where does our food come from? The Mayan Civilisation and The Digestive System.
Class 4 is all about adventure and exploring, asking questions, learning from our mistakes and believing we can do anything we set out to. In Class 4 responsibility, leadership and expectations are all key and children will take ownership of their learning in order to drive it forward with determination and enthusiasm. As the year progresses, the children grow in confidence and self-esteem so they can strive and reach their full potential. In June children take a national online test to assess their multiplication skills. Children will discover a whole range of themes as we venture through the year together.
In term 1 we begin in Antarctica and follow the journey of Shackleton and his crew. We think about how the changing climate is affecting the world and study the work of Greta Thunberg and write about animals have become extinct largely because of human actions. In term 2 we will think about how children's lives have changed over time. Year 4 also lead the Christmas play and have swimming in this term.
After the festive period we journey back in time to look at British History as we investigate the question 'How hard is it to invade and settle in Britain?' We will then turn our attention to geography and focus on where our food comes from.
In term 5 we then find out about the lives of the Mayas as we learn how the Mayan civilisation influence their society and beyond. We will even enjoy trying to make our own cacao.
This year will be full of hard work, perseverance, understanding and a lot of fun along the way!
